Doggie Dip at Washington Park

Today was the annual Doggie Dip! This year we decided to go to the pool at Washington Park because we heard that last year there were only a few dogs there. You know, because Keeley likes to think that he owns the pool and barks and growls at everydog there. So unlike how Keeley normally acts! And very embarrassing for me and his grandparents. Teagan, of course, took her cue from Keeley and acted the same annoying way. Her constant yapping is still ringing in my ears.
Once Keeley got up the nerve to jump in, he was swimming laps around the pool. He seems to really enjoy swimming.
Everyone there laughed at their doggie life jackets as usual, but I figure it's better to be safe than sorry. Plus I think they look really cute with them on!
Teagan absolutely hated being in the pool. Her grandma threw her in a few times since she wasn't going to be going in on her own. I ended up having to carry her in and then releasing her to let her swim back to shore. She was fine as long as I was holding her, but wasn't too happy when I'd let go of her.
Since it wasn't crowded, we stayed for 40 minutes. That's twice as long as we've doggie dipped for in the past. We finally decided to leave after Keeley marked on some guy's shoes and bag. Oh, how embarrassing! But dogs will be dogs and I sorta feel like this guy should have known better than to leave such an enticing target sitting on the ground with a bunch of dogs running around.
Keeley had a great time barking and swimming. I think Teagan enjoyed barking, but not so much with the swimming.

Doggie Dip @ Cool Waters

Tonight was the Doggie Dip at Cool Waters in Greenfield Park. We told Keeley that he was going to go swimming. He looked really happy about that.When we got there we discovered that the line was even longer than last year! It was so crowded with dogs and their people.
Last year, I lost sight of Keeley for 3 minutes and I was in a total panic. So this year I had four sets of eyes watching him- me, his grandma, his grandpa, and his unkie Rob. However Keeley still managed to get out of sight but only for one minute this time.
Keeley has gotten so good at swimming and he bravely jumps into the water. Unfortunately, Keeley started this weird behavior of growling at other dogs as they were trying to get out of the pool. It was as if Keeley thought he owned the pool or something. I thought it was very strange because Keeley is usually so calm and friendly with other dogs.
Here's Unkie Rob getting a hug from a boxer baby. That's the kind of dog that he wants.
Keeley did really good swimming and had a great time. He was sad when it was time to go.

Doggie Dip at Jackson Park

Today was the 4th Annual Doggie Dip. We went to the one at Jackson Park.

The Doggie Dip is a fund raising event for ROMP (Residents For Off-Leash Milwaukee Parks). On the last day that the public pools are open, and after the human swim is over, they open the pools to the dogs for a couple of hours before shutting down for the season.We had to wait in this long line to get in. But once it started moving it went really fast.
All the dogs were very anxious to get in. Here's Keeley waiting in line with his PFD on. We had to get one for my peace of mind after what happened last year.
First off, Keeley had to run a couple of laps AROUND the pool.
Once he got the lay of the land, then he was ready to observe the goings on.
He loves meeting other dogs!
Then Keeley considered checking out the water, but decided against it.
After another CRAZY lap around the pool, his grandma made use of the handle on the back of his PFD and PUT Keeley in the water.
He wasn't too thrilled about that but quickly got used to it.
If I jumped in first then Keeley would follow me. I wasn't planning on getting wet but Keeley really liked me to be in the pool with him.
It wasn't long before he was doggie paddling all over the place.
Everyone loved his life jacket. It was surprising that no other dogs were wearing them.
Keeley and I both had a great time! We were there for 30 minutes and the time just flew by. It was so much fun!

I decided it was time to leave when I started noticing some poop in the water. Ewww, gross! If I can watch my dog the whole time, why can't other people do the same?

There's another Doggie Dip next weekend at Cool Waters in Greenfield Park. We plan on attending that one too!

Doggie Dip at Cool Waters

We took Keeley to the Doggie Dip at Cool Waters in Greenfield Park this evening. He had a blast! This was the first time that Keeley has ever gone swimming and he did very well, for the most part.
Keeley was brave and went running right into the shallows with a bunch of other dogs. Then he got up the nerve to jump in where it was 2feet 6inches deep and he did the doggie paddle. It was so cute! Later, in his typical knucklehead fashion, he jumped into the deep end and sank like a rock. I had to jump in to save my baby even though I was fully clothed. After that he decided that it would be a good idea to go back to the shallow end.
It was difficult to keep track of Keeley since there was so much to do and he was moving so fast. It was a very chaotic scene because there were so many dogs and people there. Keeley had a great time.
