Keeley eats a variety of foods. For the main part of his diet, he gets 4 to 5 medallions of Nature’s Variety Raw with Prozyme added to it. His favorite kind of raw is Lamb. His least favorite is Venison. He also eats 2 Kongs filled with Nature’s Variety Instinct grain-free kibble with Nordic Naturals Omega-3 fish oil added to it. He loves this kibble so much that we can even use single pieces as rewards when training. Keeley gets table scraps at dinnertime too. His favorite human food is pizza.

For occasional treats, Keeley gets stuff like Zuke’s Hip Action, Robbie Dawg Biscuits, Yummy Chummies, Honey Crunchers and Carob Waffers from The Colorado Barkery. Keeley also snacks on raw vegetables like carrots, broccoli, and snap peas. Dad often cooks up some liver for him too.

When Keeley needs something to chew on, he gets frozen raw bones, or Flossies, Whizzers, and Beef Puffs by Merrick. Sometimes he’ll take a rawhide but it’s not his favorite thing.

Keeley is also taking Glyco-Flex II (a bone & joint supplement) since his foot is still healing. And a table spoon of pumpkin each day helps to keep him regular.

Here's Keeley dressed as a ninja hound from the Hidden Leaf Village. I'm pretty sure that Keeley recognizes the opening music to Naruto. To him it means that Erin is going to give him a bone or a flossie or a treatball - anything to keep him occupied for about 20 minutes.

I’m always amazed by how smart Keeley is. I was thinking about all the words or phrases that he knows. Here’s a list:

We always talk to him and name everything. So, I’m sure there’s more that I’m missing, but that’s all I can think of right now.

Also, just because he knows a command, it doesn’t mean he’s necessarily going to do it everytime. For example, I’m certain that he knows what “come” means but he’s not going to drop what he’s doing to come running. First, he’ll look at me to see if I need him or if I’ve got some thing in my hand for him. He’s a smart guy and he’s definitely got a mind of this own.

Keeley caught his second mouse!

Keeley caught a baby mouse in Erin's garden. It's always so exciting when he catches something living. Keeley took the mouse into his yard and played with it very gently for about 20 minutes. He would paw at it and nuzzle it with his nose. It was so cute. There were a few times when the mouse got up enough courage to try to make a run for it. But Keeley was quick and would re-catch the mouse and gently carry it back into his yard. It was clear that Keeley had no intention of hurting the mouse; he only wanted to play with it. But when the mouse was finally dead, we threw it away. Keeley received a lot of praise for being such a good mouser.
