destructo-pup

It's been a year since Keeley has done anything like this. Besides tearing up a lot of this bed, he also worked on a pair of his grandma's shoes and some cardboard boxes today. Keeley's and my schedules got out of sync. I stayed up too late and he went to sleep way too early last night. We usually nap together during the day but today every time I fell asleep, he turned into destructo-pup. I think he was mad at me for not paying enough attention to him. I did chase him around the house 18 times and 4 times in his yard but it wasn't enough. He so needs a sister!

What a failure of a day. We tried to go to the dog park but when we got there we found out that it was closed due to mud. I tried to practice "No Marking" with Keeley at Petco but totally failed at that since he marked 3 times inside the store. He was completely not listening to me at all. Plus someone had spilled M&M's and Skittles all over the lobby to the store which was a major distraction to Keeley since he loves sugar. And in the parking lot someone had dropped a bunch of cookies and I hate it when Keeley tries to eat food off the ground. It's so gross and I'm convinced he's going to get sick from eating moldy stuff. Before I got Keeley, litter and gum and cigarette butts on the ground never bothered me but now I can't stand that stuff!

Today was a bummer. I hope tomorrow goes better.

Hey Erin,

Boy, do I know where you are coming from. Kirby gets so mad at me, if I don't make him the center of my universe. Kirby will shred up the newspaper or pull the toilet paper off the role (he's a bit obsessed with paper). It drives me crazy! He also tries to eat whatever he can scrounge off the ground. I'm constantly yelling "head up" at him, to keep him from eating every nasty thing on the ground. When he was a wee pup he used to try and eat every cigarette butt he could find. I had to discuss it with my vet, I was so worried he would get sick. Oh, and at agility last week, Kirby peed as he debated doing a jump. He hasn't done that since he was 6 months old! So frustrating! It does make me feel better knowing that Keeley does most of the same things. I take comfort in knowing that Kirby is not some crazy mutant dog. He's normal, just as Keeley is. They're both just a bit spirited. Hope Monday is better for you both!

OOPS! Looks like someone is keeping busy shreading stuff! Mitch will pick up anything off the ground and carry it around forever and I'm partial to paper - kleenex and paper towels! Boy are they ever yummy! Used ones are the best!
Hope today is better for you, Keeley!

Love ya lots

Hiya Erin,
You know my sister Lucy does this sort of thing now and again. The bedding can be safe for months then boom she goes in for the kill. She has part Irish terrier in her too so our vet says but really it's just a dog thing.

Hugs and tail wags

We hope your Monday was better than your Sunday, Keeley! When we were your age, we commited destructomania on everything we found! You will get over it when you get a little older! Also, the marking thing won't be so important if you get neutered. Have a really great week!

Aire-hugs,

Hi Erin,

Balboa does that too, if I don't give him the attention that he wants immediately, then he goes off to shred, bite, chew ANYTHING. Sometimes all the exercise just doesn't seem enough. But then, maybe spending time with him IS more important than watching TV?

Dear fellow blogger,

My name is Bryony and I am an artist, based in Manchster, England. I graduated from a BA in Fine Art almost a year ago now, and am currently making a go of things as a (part-time!) artist, having just rented a studio here in Manchester.

My work is heavily influenced by man’s relationship with animals.
Recently I have become fascinated by the number of blogs online dedicated to pet dogs.

I have an idea in mind for a show, which would happen in early May this year, and I would like you to be a part of it!

What I plan to do with this art work is to demonstrate the depth and rich complexity of our love of animals, man’s best friend in particular. The work would involve the use of a piece of text from your blog (with your permission, of course).
I think this will be a lovely project – it will be fun, and will unite dog-lovers around the globe!

If you would be willing to take part, or for more information, please contact me through the email address above. Feel free to have a look at my previous art work on my blog.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, it is much appreciated and I hope to hear from you soon.

Best Wishes,

Bryony
