MKE CO PARKS: Riverside Park

This morning Keeley's grandma took us to Riverside Park. This park is kind of different because it has two distinct areas divided by the Oak Leaf Recreational Trail.
The first half on the park has a big playground area. This is just a small portion of it in this picture. The other play areas are made to be like different natural habitats such as wetland, woodland, etc.
There's also a softball practice field,
several tennis courts,
and a running track (behind this sculpture). And there are 3 rock sculptures like this in the park.
South of the track is the Urban Ecology Center. They offer summer camps for kids and a variety of workshops and activities for both adults and children. Much of the recent park improvements can be attributed to the Urban Ecology Center.
This foot bridge takes us to the second part of the park.
The bridge goes over the Oak Leaf Trail. When I lived on this side of town, I would often ride my bike on this paved recreational trail.
This part of the park is a wooded area. Here's a nice little campfire area.
Keeley was having a fun time. He likes to explore new places.
Riverside Park was also designed by Frederick Law Olmsted & Co. Back then it was called River Park. As you would expect, it's right on the Milwaukee River.
Keeley, of course, had to sniff everything. I guess that's just part of exploring a new park for him.
People can go canoeing and kayaking on the river.
Keeley walked with his grandma most of the time so that I could take pictures.
We saw some ducks along the river. And Keeley chased lots of squirrels too.
Keeley enjoyed this adventure. He gave this park his mark of approval.

It is realy a beautiful park. Was it in the morning ? Not a lot of people in this park.... It is better. We don't have parks like this here, only small ones. Very small (like the country !)...

Riverside Park is great. Too bad not everyone values it. http://riversideparkinglot.blogspot.com/
