Very early on Sunday morning, Keeley ran outside so fast that he broke a nail. He was hopping around on 3 legs and bleeding everywhere.
The last time this happened, I took him to the vet. But only the emergency vets are open on Sunday and I don't trust them because they've twice misdiagnosed Keeley and they have done wrong by Teagan too.
Finally, we called Keeley's trainer, PK, to ask for advice. She said we could cut it off, take him to a vet who would cut it off, or just leave it and let it heal on it's own. Since there's no way that I'm cutting Keeley's nail and I hate the emergency vets, we decided that the third option was best.
However, now it's been 5 days and Keeley is still hopping around on 3 legs. It looks like it's healing though.
He keeps telling me how bored he is by putting his paw on me. It's like he wants me to take him for a walk but I think that nail should heal first before it gets exposed to outside germs.
What should I do with this bored little doggie?
The first couple of days, all he did was sleep through the pain. And since then we've been taking him with when I run errand like going to the bank, the pet store, the grocery store, etc. And we've taken him on slow drives though nice neighborhoods with cute houses since he like looking out the window. But still he's really bored. I wish I could make his nail heal faster.
Does anyone know how long it's supposed to take a broken nail to heal? I don't remember it taking this long last time.
On the plus side, Teagan has been on her absolute best behavior. See, she can be good when she wants to be.

have you tried Kongs?
We've never had a broken nail before so we can't be of any help to you, Keeley. We hope your nail heals quickly so you can get back to having fun!
Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch
That have never happened to me so I really don't know!
But sure I hope it heals soon!
Yes. Kongs sound like a good idea.
Take care
